‘VANGUARD’
Mural project for Upstream Festival, March 2020, Wodonga Council.
The vanguard are a group of people leading the way in new developments or ideas. Our young people are tomorrow’s leaders and our future. Working together within our community encourages healthy values and relationships. Respect and care for our environment is paramount. These ideas underpin the concept behind this mural.
The young subject, is surrounded by symbols of nature and her environment. She looks hopefully and knowingly to the future. The pink and yellow circles represent Albury and Wodonga, overlapping to show the connections that the two cities share. The irregular lines within the circles are derived from the shape of the Murray River where it creates a border between the two cities. The birds, a Flame Robin and a Spotted Pardalote are just two of many species we might see should we stop and observe. The colours are inspired by the Murray River environment.
